For this reason, Elsa decided to pursue a certification in interior decoration which only expanded her vision and passion to decorate.

Cultivating a Passion for Fashion
Elsa, the founder of Sewzeal, LLC, has had a passion for sewing and transforming fabrics into unique creations since early childhood. Elsa is a certified interior decorator and a certified window fashion workroom specialist—but her story doesn’t start there.
Destined to Design
Born in a small town in Portugal, Elsa started playing around with her mom’s sewing machine at the age of nine. From that very moment, she knew she loved sewing. With her mother’s guidance, Elsa began to progressively get better and better at her craft. By the time she was a teenager, Elsa began creating many different sewing products and had well surpassed her mother’s own skills!
Moving to the City That Never Sleeps
Elsa came to New York in 2004 with a dream to one day establish her own custom-made home décor company—but that road didn’t seem possible at the time. Being a single mom who had to work three jobs, Elsa had to put her dreams on hold for the sake of her child. She was starting to lose hope, until one day, a friend of hers found out that she could sew.
Finally, Her Big Break
Elsa’s friend introduced her to a good friend in the design industry—the interior designer who eventually gave Elsa her first sewing job only a couple of weeks after the introduction. The interior designer was not only very impressed with Elsa’s work but also with her friendliness and professionalism. From there, word got out of Elsa’s talents and demand for her services began growing and growing.
Building the Business of Her Dreams
With zero advertising and all word of mouth, Elsa’s passion for sewing had evolved into a business, and her dream of founding her own custom-made home décor company had finally become a reality! Her passion and enthusiasm are shown in the workmanship of every item she creates.

A friend of mine who recently had done a custom made slip cover highly recommend Elsa from SewZeal to me. I called her and she came to my home and advised me on the type of foam and fabric I needed. Also a while back ago, I wanted to do some valances and a cornice on three windows but I got a quote from a local store that I just wasn't willing to pay. So I never ended up doing them and being that Elsa was already in my home, I asked her if she could do those services as well. I chanced upon this quaint little shop as I passed on my way to Anoz a door down.
Walking in I felt the warmth and meticulous attention to details and quality in the decor, the vibe, and the proprietor, Elsa. A petite, delicate demure woman stepped out from the back room as I called out, "hello?"
It turns out this woman is the owner, designer, upholsterer, button and piping sewer and your new best friend.
I honestly have a girl crush on this powerhouse of a business woman. She is just the all around one woman show, the quintessential get-something-done-do-it-yourself lady. Plus her pricing is just so sweet, compared to the "designers" who send out their most available person (who only knows how to measure because before that they were plumbers, it happened to me) and then charge you triple for it.
